Dear Cinemagoers,
Let me welcome you warmly to the 26th Ale Kino! Festival in Poznań. It has been a good year for the Polish film industry. Peter and the Wolf, the film which was co-produced in Poland, has won an Academy Award, and Katyń by Andrzej Wajda was nominated for Oscar in the important category of best foreign language film. The Andrzej Maleszka’s series The Magic Tree, which you probably know well, has received a few other awards. Polish cinema is spreading its wings and I hope we will be able to see that soon in Poznań. We still do not make enough movies for young audiences in Poland. That is why your opinions and impressions about the Festival are so important. They are like a compass to us which lets us choose the right way and decide what kind of films we should make. Between the nice but old Polish pictures and the huge cutting-edge productions from the USA there is a large empty space which we can fill with your help. We do not need to make Shrek, which requires a lot of money and efforts of hundreds of people. It can be more modest, cheaper, but still - what is of paramount importance - it must be done with you in mind and according to your expectations. That is the kind of cinema I wish to you and to myself.
