As we have had difficulty giving just one main prize this year, we have decided to award two films.
The Marcinek prize goes to the film Buddha Collapsed out of Shame (Buda az sharm foru rikht), an Iranian-French coproduction directed by Hana Makhmalbaf, for dealing with the problems of war, lack of access to education and cross-cultural differences. This is a picture about children who live in the world where the continual struggle for survival results in indifference to others.
Marcinek goes also to the film The Three Robbers (Die Drei Rauber) made in Germany and directed by Hayo Freitag, for winning our hearts, for its excellent animation and very good music. What surprised us was its extraordinary attention to detail and perfection of the film as a whole. The movie shows the power of friendship and brings people together with its universal message.
