Dear Cinemagoers

The Festival, together with the Polish art world, is celebrating the 60th anniversary of Polish animation. Artistic animated film agrees perfectly with the imagination of young audiences: it favours the development of sensitivity and creates positive perception of the child’s world. Here in Poznań we will rediscover the forgotten treasures of the Polish animation industry of the communist era, we will dust off masters’ works made within the last 20 years, we will discuss possible directions of development for children’s animation heading somewhere between overseas Shrek and our native Teddy Drop-Ear. Together, we will share the great past of Polish cinema for children, as well as our anxiety about its future.

The Festival coincides with the Year of Climate and Environment in Poznań. The United Nations Climate Change Conference participants debated about saving the natural harmony, which must not be disturbed if we want to live well. It is worth remembering that culture, including art cinema, is concerned with the harmony of the soul, which is as indispensable to mankind as clean air and water. Just as we invited conference participants, we are now inviting young cinemagoers to see films about the fascination with the beauty of dying nature. We are doing this in hope that the alarming message of the film industry will help to save the Earth from our destructive influence.

Last year the audience of the festival were nearly ten thousand cineastes, both the young and the young at heart. Today I wish to announce happily that this year we can have even larger numbers. The Festival is growing; we have exceeded the magic number of 100 films, we have more screenings, the competition is developing, new special sections have appeared, we have also invited a new group of viewers: the youngest children. This year’s Ale Kino! is taking place just before Christmas. It is still a time for reflection, but also the time of Christmas gifts and Christmas joy. You can find all that in festival movies. You only need to give a present to yourselves and your families and come to the cinema.

You are warmly invited.

Festival Director

The International Young Audience Film Festival Ale Kino! has become a fixed item in the calendar of the most important cultural events organised in Poznań.  Thus, I am very glad that I have the honour to invite our young impartial ‘critics’ to visit Multikino cinemas in Poznań again.

I wish you many memorable and touching moments while watching the best films from around the world.
