Josh is sixteen. He’s an ordinary North American teen living in a working-class suburb wedged between the high school, the abandoned mine and the skate park. There’s nothing out of the ordinary about Josh until, one day, he bursts violently into his friend Thomas’s room only to find the boy dead: Thomas has hanged himself and he is not the only one to have taken his own life: three other kids have done the same. The four - Thomas, Sacha, Simon and Alex - were Josh’s best friends. The day after the tragedy, no letter arrives to explain why they chose to leave Josh out of their pact. Thrust into the terrible role of the sole survivor, and the equally painful part of the excluded, Josh cuts himself off from the world and seems defeated by the questions he can’t answer.
